Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

Common questions about booking, pickup, tasting fees, and what to expect on a private Oregon wine tour through the Willamette Valley.

How many wineries do we visit?+

We typically visit three wineries during a tour — this is the optimal amount to take our time and enjoy each stop without feeling rushed. Most wineries close around 5:00 PM, so we aim to start the tour between 10:00–11:00 AM.

How does gratuity and tipping work?+

For the Essential Oregon Wine Tour, gratuity for your driver and winery servers is not included in the tour price — it is not required but is greatly appreciated. For our all-inclusive Group and Couples Packages, an 18% gratuity is included.

Where do you pick up and drop off?+

We offer door-to-door pickup and drop-off from your custom address in Portland, Lake Oswego, West Linn, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Salem, Newberg, McMinnville, Carlton, Dundee, and surrounding areas. Your exact pickup time is confirmed after booking.

Can we bring guests under 21?+

We do not allow guests under 21 to join our tours.

What time do tours start and how long do they last?+

Plan for an 8-hour day. Tours begin between 10:00–11:00 AM — Willamette Valley wineries typically open around 11:00 AM and begin closing between 4:00–5:00 PM, so an early start is essential. Your exact pickup time is coordinated after booking based on where you're staying.

How do I book a wine tour?+

The Essential Oregon Wine Tour is available for instant online booking — select your date and group size, and a $250 deposit secures your reservation immediately. For the all-inclusive Group and Couples Packages, submit an inquiry through our website and we'll confirm availability with our experience providers before sending you a booking and payment link.

How much are tasting fees?+

Tasting fees typically vary between $30–$65 depending on the winery. They can usually be waived with bottle purchases and membership club signups. We encourage guests to buy wine and tip their hosts.

What should I wear?+

Some guests prefer casual dress and others opt to dress semi-formal for their wine country outing. We recommend comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing with close-toed shoes for walking through vineyards.

Can we drink on the vehicle?+

There will be plenty of wine throughout the day at each winery stop — that's what the tour is all about. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on board the vehicle between stops.

How do you plan our itinerary?+

We design itineraries around the full range of what wine country has to offer — sweeping estate tasting rooms, award-winning Pinot Noir producers, and hidden boutique vineyards that rarely get the attention they deserve. The goal is a day that feels varied, unhurried, and memorable. For the Essential Wine Tour, drop your winery requests in the booking form and we'll do our best to build around them.

Can we pick our wineries?+

Yes — for the Essential Oregon Wine Tour, you can request specific wineries directly in the instant booking form and we'll build the day around them. The all-inclusive Group and Couples Packages follow set itineraries curated by us, designed to deliver the best possible experience.

What is the cancellation policy for the Essential Wine Tour?+

Your $250 deposit is fully refundable with an emailed cancellation request to booking@hvwtours.com more than 48 hours before your tour date. Cancellations within 48 hours of the tour forfeit the deposit.

What is the cancellation policy for the All-Inclusive Group and Couple's Package?+

Because we pre-purchase food and wine reservations on your behalf, a $150 per person deposit is non-refundable. The remaining balance is fully refundable up until 48 hours before the tour — email booking@hvwtours.com to cancel and request a refund.
